Traineeship Description:

Greenbank College have two exciting traineeship opportunities for a Kitchen Assistant in a family-friendly pub with a great reputation for its freshly cooked food and selection of draught beers, based in the south of Liverpool. This opportunity is open to young people aged between 16-18 and up to the age of 25 with an Education, Health and Care Plan who are interested in going into a career in catering and hospitality.

This traineeship is part of an education and training programme that is focused on giving young people the skills and experience that employers are looking for. The core component of this programme is a high-quality work experience placement, which is complemented by work preparation training in college concentrating on employability, personal skills development, English and Maths (for those who need it) and a vocational subject area.

Traineeships are a pathway to an apprenticeship or paid employment, and the employer is expected to give the trainee an offer of employment (if one is available) at the end of programme, or provide a job reference and use their contacts to help the trainee gain employment.

Traineeship Purpose:

To keep the busy kitchen running smoothly and provide support to the chefs to create delicious dishes for customers.

Main tasks & accountabilities:

  • Keep all areas of the kitchen clean and free of clutter.
  • Supporting chefs during preparation and service in a specific work section.
  • Washing, peeling and preparing food items.
  • Using a variety of kitchen equipment such as food mixers, special knives and cutters.
  • Unloading deliveries.
  • Organising the storeroom and ensuring food is correctly labelled and dated to ensure that food safety and hygiene standards are maintained at all times.
  • Washing kitchen appliances, work surfaces and walls before and after service.
